Verbs connected with education
· to study – uczyć się
She has to study a lot, if she want to get a good mark.
· to revise - powtarzać
I should revise tonight before the exam.
· to do homework – robić zadanie domowe
If you don’t do your homewor know, I won’t let you watch TV.
· to learn – uczyć się
My maths teacher was terrible. We didn’t learn anything.
· to cheat – oszukiwać, ściągać
Some pupils tried to cheat, but teacher saw that.
· to take (or do) exams – przystępować do egzaminów
If you want to be a doctor, you have to take a lot of exams
· to start;to leave – zacząć; skończyć (szkołę)
In Poland children starts chool when they are six and can’t leave before they are 18.
· to pass; to fail – zdać; oblać
She hopes she will pass the exam. Her parents will be angry if she fail.
· to behave – zachowywać się
He was a rebel at school. He used to behave very badly.
Types of schools
state school – szkoła publiczna
private school – szkoła prywatna
religious school –szkoła religijna, gdzie nauczycielami są często zakonnice czy księża
boarding school –szkoła z internatem
1. Nursery school – for very young children, e.g. 1-4.
2. Primary school – for young children, e.g. from 4-11.
3. Secondary school – for older children, e.g. 11-18
People connected with education
head teacher –dyrektor
professor – nauczyciel na uniwersytecie
student – osoba ucząca się na wyższych szczeblach edukacji
pupil – uczeń (w domyśle tych niższych szczebli)
graduate – absolwent
