[73] Games we play!

Hello everyone, it`s a pleasure to write another post for you. Now we are more or less in the middle of spring (which came late, but came at all!) and are looking forward for the hot and long summer. The weather is so unpredictable, that`s why I decided to produce this post. Although we normally associate board games with long and cold winter afternoons and evenings, I would like to encourage you to play a couple of games during rainy and gloomy spring and summer days. So, here we go - board games!

[70] Polyglotism - how many languages are we able to speak?

Actually, there is no clear answer to this question. Nor is it clear how many languages we should speak to be called a polyglot. In the present article I will try to show you some interesting facts about polyglotism and present some selected polyglots

[64] Three different stories...

... but... really different? In the present post I want to tell you three stories which will maybe change a little your perception of English... forever. Perhaps used gazillions of times per day by an average user of English, words such as "hello" and "OK" are probably the most frequent ones in the English language whatsoever. Have we ever thought for a while about where these words come from? If no, we`ve deprived ourselves of knowing immensely interesting stories of these words; their ups and downs and other linguistic adventures throughout centuries. Let`s then learn something about them now!

[62] Further comments on motivation: the psycholinguistic perspective

We`ve already had two posts in the realm of psychology, both penned by Raszka. I thought that it would be a nice idea to shed some more light on motivation as a mental process. Those who got interested in what these posts were devoted to can possibly find some more interesting information in the present one. Enjoy!

[60] How to effectively learn languages: MOTIVATION, czyli jak ją odzyskać?

Witajcie,
A czas mijał, najpierw tydzień, potem miesiąc, dwa... Co z tym w takim razie zrobić?!

[59] Sounds made by animals

In view of the fact that I`m suffering from writer`s block and I`m trying to get motivated (that`s why I have been impatiently looking forward to Raszka`s new post since I noticed its topic :D), today I am going to present some less serious stuff, but perhaps really useful in some situations (when for example you may want or need to produce a detailed description of something). The topic is sounds that are made by various species of animals. Please, pay attention to the third column in which I gathered onomatopoeic words and compare these sounds to your own, native languages. Do dogs bark in the same way in Polish and English? How about German or other languages? Have fun! :)

[58] Psychology, sociology and behaviorism

http://www.cognitionetc.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/mental-illness.jpgHello everyone,
sorry for posting that so late, but I've caught a cold;( Autumn is definitely not my favourite season.
The post today has been requested by a girl who would like to improve and extend her vocabulary connected to psychology, sociology and behaviorism in order to prepare herself for studying abroad. I am happy to help her, that's why I invite you all to get familiar with new vocabulary and some psychological facts. Enjoy!

[56] The game of chess - vocabulary and a short lesson

Hi! Today the topic of my article will be completely different from what I have been focusing on so far. I want to write a few words about chess - one of the most popular (if not the most popular) board games in the world. In this post you will find some vocabulary related to the game and you can just learn it, or use it when necessary (Also, I put some more interesting words or phrases in bold). For those who are more interested in the topic I am going to give some kind of instruction, or tips, how to play (succesfully;P). Have fun reading the article!

W niniejszym artykule podzielę się z czytelnikami moimi wrażeniami i obserwacjami dotyczącymi studiowania filologii angielskiej, a także postaram się udzielić kilku wskazówek na co szczególnie zwrócić uwagę, będąc studentem anglistyki, lub przymierzając się do studiowania tego kierunku. Gorąco zapraszam!

[47] Curiosities

The topic of my article is different than I planned, but it's not the first time... Maybe it will be better, if I don't write topics in the schedule. Usually I change them really quickly. Anyway, I prepared a list of some curiosities for today. I hope you'll find them interesting. Enjoy!

[23] Life in Britain 3/ System edukacji

 [artykuł przeniesiony z poprzedniego adresu]
Mogłabym napisać ten artykuł po angielsku, ale myślę, że byłoby go o wiele trudniej zrozumieć. Oficjalne nazwy zostawię tak jak są, w ojczystym języku Brytyjczyków.
Od czegoś trzeba zacząć, a więc: obowiązkowa edukacja trwa do 16 roku życia; do tego czasu każda osoba uczęszcza do dwóch szkół. Najpierw primary school, w której mamy dzieci w klasach 1-6. Jesteśmy tam do jedenastego roku życia. Wątpię by kogoś interesowało, co się tam dzieje, bo tak naprawdę nie ma tu nic ciekawego.
